Party Spotlight: Emma Wyman

Happy Friday! For today’s Party Spotlight it’s Emma Wyman’s turn! Now, you may be wondering… Emma does the Friday posts, does this mean she’s writing her own Party Spotlight? Yes, but that’s besides the point. Keep scrolling to read all about when she got into tabletop, her favorite parts of the game, and her most recent character GlitteryGlow! Do you have a character you’re most proud of? We’d love to hear about it! Tell us more in the comments below!

Q1: You got into tabletop while still in school, did that have any effect on your view of the game?

Emma Wyman (EW): Not really, the biggest difficulty of starting tabletop while I was in school was accepting the fact that I was going to miss sessions and parts of the story but it never steered me away from tabletop and I was always happy to play again when I was back in town.

Q2: You enjoyed some RPG video games before going into tabletop, was there anything that surprised you going from one medium to the other?

EW: I think just how creative people can be. With RPG’s you have that sense of freedom but ultimately your choices are still limited. With tabletop, it feels that the sky's the limit and there’s no boundaries to your creative freedom (as long as it’s GM’d approved).

Q3: What do you like about War and Aether (W&A) over other Tabletops?

EW: I really like the skill point system and investing experience and time into various skills that work for your character build and trying to get the maximum number you can. It’s truly amazing to see how to get the biggest number you can in a skill and everyone just react in pure shock that you were able to get that number.

Q4: Being new to Tabletops when you started, how easy or hard was it to learn W&A?

EW: It was really easy to learn W&A when I started playing Tabletop. I think the biggest hurdle I had to jump was character creation but even then I had everyone in the party to help me and now I can create my character fairly fast.

Q5: Tell us about your most recent character build!

EW: My character right now is an old man wizard named GlitteryGlow, this is my first time ever making a magic character in tabletop and working with the Runic Magic system in W&A. It was definitely a learning curve going into the magic system but I’ve been having fun with the character and figuring out what spells I can create.

Q6: When creating characters, do you draw from any inspiration?

EW: Sometimes yes, sometimes no. If I find a character in media that I really like, I will tend to draw some of their attributes into my character but sometimes I just go with the flow and see where the character will take me.

Q7: Do you have a unique tabletop story that you’d like to share?

EW: Definitely being part of a religion run by a Ratfolk, for the “Figure of Speech”. Especially because I missed the session when this whole figure of speech religion started and my character just wanted to make sure the Ratfolk were happy.

Q8: Having been exclusively a player, have you ever considered Game-Mastering (GM’ing) a game? Why or why not?

EW: Part of me has a desire to do so, so maybe in the future but right now I have too much on my plate and GM’ing a game would be on the bottom of my priority list and players don’t deserve to play with a GM who’s putting the campaign at the end of the priority list.

Q9: What’s been your favorite part about playing Tabletop?

EW: Stepping out of my comfort zone and roleplaying more. Sure, I have a B.A. in Theater Arts but I’ve always been so-so with improv and it’s something I want to get better at and tabletop is helping.

10: What’s one thing from War & Aether that you wish you could bring into the real world?

EW: I just want a pet Direwolf.

Thank you, Emma, for taking the time out of your schedule to answer these questions! (No problem, Emma!) Do you have a character you’re most proud of? We’d love to hear about it! Tell us more in the comments below! And make sure to come back here for all things relating to War & Aether!
